What is the Student Alumni Association?
Launched on February 1, 2011, the Student Alumni Association (SAA) is the student level of the Alumni Association with a mission to unite current students with alumni in a manner that creates strong value, pride, and tradition for both students and alumni of Georgia State University. SAA is a national award winning student organization and currently holds the title as Georgia State's largest student organization with over 2,500 student members.
Dinner with 12 Panthers Purpose & Goals:
Dinner with 12 Panthers, coordinated by the Georgia State Student Alumni Association, pairs students with local GSU alumni and friends for small, intimate dinner parties. The goals of this unique program are to provide students with the following opportunities.
• Meet GSU alumni and friends in a relaxed, informal setting
• Establish connections beyond immediate peer or academic groups
• Develop a higher comfort level networking with alumni
• Experience the broader Georgia State University community
Alumni hosts and participants not only get to know current GSU students on a deeper level, but also act as role models by sharing life experiences and advice with students while teaching them how to succeed at Georgia State and beyond. Ultimately, Dinner with 12 Panthers is another way the Georgia State Student Alumni Association strives to bridge the gap between students and alumni.
Dinner with 12 Panthers Frequently Asked Questions:
- Who pays for the dinner? The alumni dinner host(s) is fully responsible for the financial costs associated with their dinner.
- What assistance do I receive with the dinner? The Student Alumni Association handles everything on the student side as far as getting students registered for your dinner and arranging/providing transportation to and from the location. All you have to do is set your dinner date, time, and location and we handle the rest. You will also be assigned a student facilitator who will serve as a liaison between you and your student attendees.
- Do I have to host 12 students? No you do not. The minimum requirement is 6 students. We also allow alums to host more than 12 if they desire.
- Can I have someone host the dinner with me? Of course! This is a good way to have assistance with dinner costs and logistics, and can even enable you to host more students.
- I know someone who would like to co-host with me, but they did not graduate from Georgia State. Can they still serve as a co-host? Yes they can. The only requirement is that the main dinner host must be a graduate of Georgia State. Co-hosts may be fellow alums, co-workers, spouses, and/or family members and friends.
- Do I have to host the dinner at my home? No you do not. You can host students at a restaurant, your place of work, or at the home of your co-host if they have the space to accommodate your students.
- What if I want to host something earlier in the day? Like a brunch or a lunch? Due to the demand of this option, we have offered earlier time slots for those wishing to host a lunch.
- I do not live in the metro Atlanta area, but would still like to host a dinner. Due to liability reasons, we ask that your dinner location be no more than 25 miles from the central downtown campus location. If you do not live or work within this vicinity, we suggest finding a restaurant location or a co-host that resides closer to the metro area.
- I want to register to secure my dinner date and time, but I'm not set on where I want to host my dinner yet. Should I wait to register until I have that information? NO! Dinner time slots are available on a first come, first served basis, so please register ASAP so that you can get the date/time slot that you want. On the web form, select 'To Be Determined' as your location. Dinner locations must be submitted and finalized by March 2nd.
